Get Out and Get Running This Fall

By 11:11 AM , , ,
Even though bathing suit weather has passed and the shorts and short skirts are going into storage, fall is still a great time to begin reaching your fitness goals. The cool weather makes those morning or evening runs and walks all the more pleasant. Wouldn't we all love to have more energy, be healthier, and look and feel more attractive? I know I would. Which is exactly why I have decided this is going to be the fall I work very hard to get in shape. Forget waiting until January 1st. Maybe part of my personal reasoning is due to the fact that we have a company wide seminar that is taking place on a cruise in February ;) or...maybe it's just because I want to look like the chick in the picture below:

Either way I'm getting in shape and I'm excited! Starting a workout regiment can be daunting, but personally I often find that most of my fear is mental. Luckily there are many helpful plans that can ease the process from going to drop dead lazy to energetic runner. Several plans exist on the internet to help just about anyone become a runner, no matter what their experience and fitness level. I am currently working on this one. It's called Super Skinny Me. Yes, please. Day three and so far so good. I'll keep you updated on my process.

Many plans such as the above one, offer a tiered program combining walking and running which recommend alternating the two for specified periods of time. For example, walk for three minutes and run for one during your first workout, and increase the running increments on a daily basis throughout a several-week workout until you can run for thirty minutes without stopping. The best thing about plan such as the one I mentioned is that you can work at a pace that works for you.
I have found some great tips to help keep you motivated and encourage you not to give up after day 5. The number 1 tip is to consider finding a friend who is at a similar fitness level as you, so you can push each other and hold one another accountable. Just give it a chance.

Some other tips include investing in a good pair of tennis shoes. You will be amazed at the difference this makes. Good music and eating right can also help you ease into running. And don't forget to stretch to prevent injuries!
This fall, take that step you’ve been wanting to take and start running!

Patio Furniture Before & After

By 8:40 PM
As many of you may remember from my earlier post  Josh and I were lucky enough to get this awesome table for free through Free Cycle and chairs for free from family!

We were also lucky enough to find an iron umbrella stand for $5 at a yard sale. Although we are very thankful to have this patio furniture they were hammy downs and were way overdue for a makeover.

Since we are moving in a little over two weeks (as long as closing goes well) we have decided to try to do all the many projects around the house we have been meaning to complete for months before we move. The weather was gorgeous this weekend so we decided it was time for us to makeover our patio furniture. After two trips to Walmart for spray paint (who knew it would take so much paint?!) and several sore thumbs and sweaty bodies later, our set was complete and looks awesome if I do say so myself!

Now we just need to buy new cushions and an umbrella since ours have beat the dust. Any suggestions on where I can get new cushions without spending a fortune? Several of my followers on Facebook suggested Gardenridge but we do not have one near us.

While researching patio furniture options I found out that there is a company that can refinish patio furniture for you!  This company, based out of California, can update the look (paint, strap, and fabric) of your patio furniture and thus save you up to 70% compared to buying new. I love this idea because it not only saves you money but it's great for the environment!

The company, called Patio Guys', has a highly trained team of patio furniture refinishing experts that take damaged, worn out, faded, and mis-matched patio furniture (sounds like the Thompson household patio furniture in the before picture) and refinish each item to look better than new! Check them out and get your outdoor furniture repaired or be brave like we were and refinish it yourself.

I can't wait to get some new cushions and an umbrella and we will be all set to entertain outdoors in this gorgeous weather we have been having in Georgia.

Arbor Mist Frozen Wine Cocktails

By 11:09 AM , , , ,

SheSpeaks has teamed up with Arbor Mist to give your summer an extra kick of fun – what better way to do that than with a cool drink! Arbor Mist Frozen Wine Cocktails are a new way to enjoy great-tasting wine with a splash of fruit, frozen! Great for a backyard party, pool day, barbeque or casual get-together with friends and family – simply freeze, squeeze and enjoy. Arbor Mist Frozen Wine Cocktails require no mixing of ingredients, ice or blenders. This is wonderful because it means no mess! Simply place the liquid pouch in the freezer for five hours, gently massage the package, tear open the top, squeeze to pour into a glass and enjoy a smooth frozen wine cocktail!

I was blessed to receive a variety of Arbor Mist Fozen Wine Cocktails to review.

My first thought was "oh boy!" A grown up slushie! If you like a refreshing drink you are going to love these. They taste great and the best part was you didn't have to deal with washing a dirty blender.

Each pouch contains 10 ounces which is one HUGE serving. In fact my husband and I split the packages when we opened them and served two quite nicely.

Find out more by clicking on each flavor!  Blackberry Merlot, Strawberry White Zinfandel, White Pear Pinot Grigio. My personal fav was the Strawberry White Zinfandel although they were all delicious.

Mia Mariu Makeup Review and Giveaway

Mia Mariu Makeup Review

Mia Mariu sent me the above makeup samples to review on my blog. The package they sent included:
  • Hydrating Anti-Aging Moisturizer with SPF 30+
  • Restauracel-C Thermal Microdermabrasion Set
  • Hydrating Stick Gloss in Tango
  • Loose Mineral Shadow Liner in Rosa and Mora
I tried out the Hydrating Stick Gloss in Tango first. The full size product is $15. Although I was not very impressed with the color, (it was much to bright according to both my husband and myself), I loved the texture of the lipstick. It was very smooth on my lips and stayed put for an hour which is a success for me with lipstick.

The Loose Mineral Shadow Liners (at $14 a piece) were a lot of fun to play with...but I'm not so sure I would wear Mora out in public as it was quite dark. The Rosa on the other head was awesome and I actually wore it to work today. They are very powdery and easy to make a mess when you put them on but they look wonderful once they are on your eyelids.

The Hydrating Anti-Aging Moisturizer with SPF 30+ offers a wonderful way to hydrate your face and to protect it from the sun. The full size product for it is $44 (which seems expense to me for a moisturizer) but it was very soft on my face and feels very light.

The final product I tried was the Restauracel-C Thermal Microdermabrasion Set at $55 for the set. I love this product! It came with both a serum and a scrub that you mix together and rub on your face. The combo leaves your skin feeling so soft and is supposed to treat sun spots which is an added plus for a freckle face like me!

All in all I was impressed with the Mia Marui products but not so much to the point that I would be willing to pay the prices for their products with the expection of the Microdermabrasion Set.

Great news! You have the chance to try Mia Mariu's products for yourself! They are giving away to my readers one Hydrating Stick Gloss and two Loose Mineral Shadow Liners.  The winner can have the color of their choice on each product.  A Retail Value of $43.  What a sweet deal! US Residents only, please.  Enter below via Rafflecopter to win! Good luck!

Mountain Weekend

By 4:11 PM , , , , , , , , , , ,
A few weekends ago Josh and I got to go visit some of our best friends who recently got married (whohoo Lee + Nikki). They live in the mountains on the top of an apple orchard. Seriously, yall'...this is their backyard:

I know. Gorgeous right?

The purpose of the weekend was to go Whitewater rafting on Sunday down the Ocoee since it is not to far from their house but we ended up going up Friday night and getting into a whole lot of other shenanigans and basically having way to much fun.

We started our Saturday morning right by getting a biscuit at the DQ. If you have ever been in Ellijay, GA then you know that this is not a normal Dairy Queen. It's THE place to be on a Saturday morning. After our biscuits we went out to their land to shoot some guns. This is when Lee and Josh continued their track record of injuries when they get together (you can read about Josh's injury when we were hanging out with them in January in this post)...Lee ended up getting stung twice (once in the eye and once in the back of the head) by a yellow jacket/bee. Problem is he is severally allergic. Poor guy. His face/eye swelled up to Hulk size. Luckily he is a trooper and didn't let it spoil our fun.

We continued on to the Apple Barn Nikki works at (below) for a delicious apple cider slushy and fried apple pie.

We spent the rest of our Saturday touring the gorgeous mountains. We even drove Lee's truck down a creek. Talk about awesome. Here's some pics of the scenery:

ADD we played in the creek as Josh and Nikki are proving in this pic:

We even got to hear coyotes from our window at night...scarry. Whitewater rafting was a success on Sunday and all four of us managed to stay in the raft although Lee's little brother did not.

All in all in what a wonderful weekend with wonderful friends.
