Strong and Kind + Giveaway

By 9:03 PM , , , , , , , , , ,
Although I follow a lot of celebrities there is only a small percentage of those I follow that I look up to...one of those people is Korie Robertson. For those of you who may not know who Korie is, although I seriously doubt it, Korie is the wife of Duck Commander® CEO Willie Robertson and star of A&E's beloved series Duck Dynasty.

Korie is a mother of five (which is how many children I have always thought I wanted so that obviously bonds us) and a New York Times bestselling author of several books, including The Duck Commander Family: How Faith, Family, and Ducks built a Dynasty, written with Willie; Faith Commander: Living Five Values from the Parables with Jesus, written with her mother Chrys Howard; and The Women of Duck Commander: Surprising Insights from the Women Behind the Beards about What Makes this Family Work, written with all of the Robertson wives.  She is also an in-demand public speaker, Duck Commander® executive, entrepreneur and founder of boutique Duck and Dressing, and philanthropist, who remains active with a variety of organizations that focus on children, adoption, and foster care.

I have followed Korie, her mother, and several of her children on Instagram for a few years and also watched her daughter Sadie on Dancing with the Stars and have been nothing but impressed especially with the way her kids are turning out - particularly how much they genuinely love the Lord and their family and want to cheer each other on in life. Three things I want most for my family. This family is the real deal. Plus Korie is good friends with Jen Hatmaker (my other woman crush) so that gives her bonus points in my eyes.

That is why I am THRILLED to share with you guys that Korie has written a new book "STRONG and KIND: And Other Important Character Traits Your Child Needs to Succeed," that is all about parenting. Jackpot. I was so lucky to be sent an advanced copy of the book and have had a hard time putting the book down. I have actually read most of the pages twice and been working through it with an accompanying workbook. Korie is an entertaining writer and the content is gold. Every mother should read this book.

In the book the mother of five argues hat developing good character in our children is the single most important thing we can do to help ensure they lead happy, healthy adult lives.  Robertson explores key traits and what they truly look like in action, asks readers to select the two traits that they hope to see most in their children, and shares hands-on ways for nurturing strength of character.  Written with her mother Chrys Howard and featuring stories and wisdom from husband Willie, STRONG and KIND cuts through the contemporary cacophony of parenting manuals to rediscover, unfold, and embrace the enduring wisdom that has guided the best parents for centuries.

Do yourself a favor and order this book now. Because let's be honest. We need all the help we can get.

I have one copy to giveaway to a lucky reader.

Baby Bath Time

By 8:30 PM , , , ,
I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for AVEENO® Eczema Therapy. I received product samples as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

In our house we take a try to take a bath every night single night. My toddler gets very messy during the day and LOVES bath time so it is basically a win-win. So much so that you have to be very careful not to say the "B" word unless you are 100% sure you have time to give him a bath because as soon as you say "bath" he goes running for the tub and starts stripping.

I'm not going to lie...I love the smell of a baby fresh out of the tub. To be totally transparent I used to use Johnson and Johnson on my little guy but quickly learned that I could not. My little guy has very sensitive skin and suffers from eczema when products hit his skin. Plus the more I started learning about the Johnson and Johnson products the wearier I grew of using that product and quickly stopped using it. The last year I have been on the look out for a bath soap and lotion I could use on his dry skin that would cause his eczema to swell up. I am thrilled that I have finally found a product that works for us and knew I had to share with those other parents whose child might has have eczema.

AVEENO®/AVEENO® Baby Eczema Therapy Collection was developed by leading dermatologists and awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance for providing gentle, superior ingredients to sooth skin with eczema. What I love most about the AVEENO® brand is that they are known for harassing the power of natural ingredients so you don't have to worry that you are rubbing chemicals on to your babies body.  Their fragrance-free, hypoallergenic products are formulated with soothing ACTIVE NATURALS® Colloidal Oatmeal to care for the four symptoms of eczema which included itching, roughness, dryness, and irritation. I have tried several of their products on my son.

The first I use on a as needed basis when his skin seems extra dry or I see the eczema flaring up. It is basically a packet you dump in your bath that creates an oatmeal bath for your baby. It leaves his skin feeling very soft but fair warning...it does make a bit of a mess in your tub but it is very worth it.

The other products I use EVERY SINGLE DAY now on my son are the hand cream and moisturizing cream. I rub the moisturizing cream all over his body and use the hand cream on the areas that tend to be most effected by eczema such as the back of his knees and his arms. When used as a regular regimen these products greatly help break the cycle of irritated skin so when though their is no cure for eczema the symptoms can be managed.

I love these products and know that if your little one suffers from eczema you will like them too!

Creating an Inviting Guest Bathroom

One of the easiest things to do to ensure your guests have a remarkable experience when visiting your home is to create a warm, inviting, and comfortable guest bathroom. Let's be honest....bathroom experiences are designed to be forgotten and quite honestly the best bathroom experiences are the ones you don't remember because the restroom had everything you needed. This post is to highlight the some of the ways you can create an inviting bathroom experience for your guests.

1. Have plenty of toilet paper handy where your guests can find it.

I keep a basket of toilet paper on the back of the guest toilet and make sure there are at least three rolls of toilet paper in the basket at all times. This ensures that a guest does not have to try to hunt down more if your stock runs low during a party or, worse, have to ask you for more. I also always make sure to have plenty of strong + flexible toilet paper like Quilted Northern Ultra Soft and Strong from Walmart for maximum comfortable and flexibility.

Quilted Northern Ultra Soft and Strong has been providing quality and comfort since 1902 and is sewer and septic safe.

2. Have hand towels available for your guests.

My favorite kind are the paper hand towels that guests can discard after use. You can usually find monogrammed paper towels at Marshalls or TJ Maxx.

3. Make sure your restroom remains smelling inviting by lighting a candle or keeping air freshener on a shelf so it is handy for guests who would like to use it.

I go back and forth between the two but since we have a toddler at the moment who loves to try to dig his fingers in a candle when I am not looking I currently have a clean cotton air spray on the shelf for guests to use.

4. Keep the essentials handy.

Think through the items your guests might not have brought with them that might be nice to have. I keep little jars on a crate shelf in my bathroom that include items such as paper cups in case over night guests want a swig of water to swallow medicine, Q-tips, cotton balls, and dental floss.

5. Stock up on hotel size shampoos and conditioners.

I keep a basket full of the little shampoos and conditioners I get while traveling that I have not opened for my guests who may not bring there own. This way they feel free to use their own soap and discard when they are finished.

What tips and tricks do you have for creating a remarkable bathroom experience for your guests? I would love to what makes for the most enjoyable experience in your opinion.

The Best Sort of Home Decor

I received this product for free in exchange for an honest review of the product.

I am excited to showcase for you guys my newest 'art' that is hanging on the wall over my staircase. I really want to turn this wall into a photo gallery of my framed photos and I have found a company to do this for me that I love!

I ordered a 13 x 20 picture of my guys from framedart.com and was really impressed with the quality of the photo, the frame, and the mat around the photo. I can't wait to order more photos from this company and encourage you to check them out for your printed photo needs.

The best part about this photo is due to it's size my son loves looking at it as we walk up and down the steps. He can't pass it without pointing out himself and "Dada."

This website also offers lots of prints and art work outside of printed photos so if you are more in to art and less in to photography they have plenty of pretty pictures to make your home beautiful.

Now I just have to figure out what photo I want to have printed next. Oh the possibilities. ;)

Things I’d Tell My 16-Year-Old Self

By 10:56 AM ,
Isn't it amazing how your perspective changes in a decade? I can't wait to do this again in another 10 years and see what I would have told myself in my upper 20s.

~~~
1. You are about to have your heart broken for the first time and will be so confused and hurt but let me assure you. God has a man in mind for you that is SO much better than you can envision for yourself. Hang in there because this man is actually already in your life and you don't even realize it because you are so absorbed in what you thought is best for you. This is your first real lesson of man that God's plan is truly so much better.
2. I know you're already stressing out about school and college and feel very unsure about where to go. You will end up applying to 17 schools and get in to all of them so stop stressing and enjoy high school. You will end up at UGA and make some of your best friends and end up with an amazing job. I repeat, stop worrying and be a kid while you still can.
3. You know all that advice that your grandfather tells you and how he always wanting to do crazy fun things that you think you don't have time for because you are so consumed with high school. Write his stores down and find a way to go with him on all his crazy adventures every chance you get. He will leave your life much earlier than he should have and you will miss him every single day. Spend as much time with him now as you can.
4. When preparing to travel lay out all your clothes. Take half of what you packed.
5. Start each day with your quiet time with God. It is important.
6.  The human spirit needs places where nature hasn’t been rearranged by the hand of man. Take more walks in the woods!
7. You know all the "old stuff" your mom thinks is cool and all those collections she has throughout the home. You will be crazy about it all one day, too. And believe it or not will spend many of your weekends in those same antique and home decor stores you used to dread going to.
8. Ask your grand mom to teach you cook. You'll be sorry you didn't when you had the chance.
9. Talk less. Listen more.
10. Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. (D’Angelo)
11. Start blogging. You will want to remember things later.
12. For goodness sake stop watching scary movies. They will come back to haunt you later in life.
Fall Fun in North Georgia + First-Basers
By 2:07 PM , , , , ,
A couple of weeks ago we had the opportunity to visit some of our best friends in north Georgia for the weekend. These friends ya'll...they are our first basers. You know what I mean...the friends who are there for you through the thick and then. The friends that will do anything for you and you will do anything for in return. The ones you can be 100% yourself with and they still love you. The sort of friends that even though they don't have children of their own yet invite you to bring your 15 month old and spend the entire weekend with them and plan fun activities around your child's bedtime/nap time/eating schedules.
O.k. enough. You get it. I know, I know. We had the best weekend (with the one exception of the Dawgs loss to Alabama...what happened?!?) and there are SO many fun activities to do in the Blueridge, Ellijay, North Georgia area that I thought I would share in case any of you want to plan a fall weekend get away to this area.
First Stop: Mercer's Apple House
If you haven't been here add it to your list. Their blueberry wine and also their cider slushies. Out. of. this world. Oh and their apple fritters and fried pies. Get one. Or 20. You can pick apples if you want or you can just sample them and buy them from the apple house. They also have a winery, a bakery, and a store. Plus there is the opportunity to get a tractor picture like this one.
Second Stop: Lunch in Blueridge
So many options. So delicious.
Third Stop: Burt's Pumpkin Farm in Dawnsonville, GA
Apparently this place is an icon but neither my husband nor I had ever been. Get ready for picture overload. This place is awesome! TONS of pumpkins and they are really affordable. Also, a really cool hayride for the kids+ lots of good food = fall fun to the finest!
Last Stop: Amicalola Falls
BEAUTIFUL waterfall and an easy hike plus it is directly across the street from Burt's Pumpkin Farm.
So if you didn't already have weekends plans and live somewhat close now you do. You're welcome.
I hope you all have the BEST weekend!
New Movie Excitement
By 2:38 PM , , , ,
I am SO excited to share with you all about release of a new movie that comes out TODAY: Finding Noah that I am really excited about. I had the opportunity to see it early and it is really interesting and inspiring! So if you are looking for a date night tonight here is my suggestion (please note this is a one night only release).
"For over 2,000 years, man has been searching for the final resting place of Noah's Ark.  Though there have been many attempts, few have been able to fully explore the one place specifically noted in the Bible: Mount Ararat. Located in Eastern Turkey, Agri Dagh or "The Painful Mountain" is the tallest mountain in the region and lies in the very center of a centuries old, geo-politically unstable hot spot.  With constant threats of deadly rock slides, hidden crevasses, and glacial ice falls, the Kurdish Rebel held mountain poses great risk to any explorer, let alone those performing a thorough scientific investigation.
Join director/producer Brent Baum and the FINDING NOAH film crew as they follow an expedition of intrepid explorers on a perilous trek up to Mt. Ararat's desolate summit.  There, using state of the art technology and real-time satellite imagery, this team of archeologists, scientists and professional mountaineers will begin a grid work of exploration unlike any before, hoping to finally resolve the age-old question:  did Noah and his Ark actually exist?
Shot in never-before filmed locations in the harshest of conditions, this unprecedented feature-length documentary shows just how far men are willing to go to discover the truth.  Narrated by Academy Award nominee Gary Sinise, FINDING NOAH is more than a quest for answers, it is a testament of the human spirit, where belief and the need for exploration transcend risk and limitation."
Genre: Documentary
Rating: NR
Runtime: 116 minutes
Release Date (ONE NIGHT ONLY): October 8
Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway. Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.
