Our Engagement Story in Honor of V-Day

By 4:04 PM ,
Happy Valentine's Day weekend everyone! I love, love. Really though. I know, I know; Valentine's Day is a Hallmark holiday but I appreciate any opportunity I have to express my love and appreciation to those in my life. Particularly my amazing husband.

He is truly incredible. He loves me and supports me and has been my best friend for a decade now. I feel so privileged that we have gotten to grow up together and get to "do life" together every day.

In honor of this holiday of love I thought it would be fun to share with you all our engagement story. Without further goes.

It was June 6, 2010 a Sunday. We started off the day in the same way we spent just about every Sunday. By attending church together. After church is when things really started to get fun. We returned to my parents home (they live on land and have a lake on their land). He escorted me down to the lake where he had setup a white linen picnic gourmet lunch he had prepared for me complete with all my favorite foods. He had a poem he wrote for me sitting on my plate and a CD full of music of "our songs" was playing.  He had rented a white tent so we would have shade (it was a June day in Georgia) and had candles and fine China. There were even rose petals on the grass around the tent and two dozen pink roses (my favorite) in the middle of the table. It was an amazing, romantic lunch but the day didn't end there.

After lunch we spent the afternoon geocaching around the county. He would hand me a clue and I would have to geocache to the next box to find the next clue. I was totally on to something and it was so fun wondering if there was going to be a ring in the next box we found. We ended up making 4 different stops. In each location he had previously left a new clue for the next location.

At our last stop we ended up at a local landmark that we happened to visit on one of our first dates. We had always thought the location was fun and romantic (it is actually the location of the glass manufacturer in Sweet Home Alabama if you have ever seen that movie). When I got down to see what was in the final box instead of receiving a clue I found a poem he had written me asking me to be his wife. I turned around with tears in my eyes to find him on one knee. Quite honestly I can't even remember what he said. I wish I could but I was crying so hard and saying "yes" so many times that I honestly don't. Thank goodness I still have the poem and those words with me for the rest of my life.

My now brother-in-law had been following us around all day (without me knowing; well until the final stop when I actually saw him hiding in a bush but that is a different story) taking pictures and documenting the day (hence the pictures I am able to share with you guys).

I later learned that this whole plan for engagement was supposed to end with a proposal in a hot air balloon but due to weather had to be postponed. We ended going on our hot air balloon ride a couple days later. Honestly, the entire thing could NOT have been more perfect in my eyes.

I will never forget that moment. I remember calling my family and best friends right there from the site and telling my grandfather and grandmother they needed to come over to parents house so I could show off the ring. (A memory that is incredibly precious to me as my grandfather, whom was my second father, unexpected passed away a few short months later). It was my fairy tale story and I will always be thankful to my incredible hubby for giving me such an awesome proposal.

Have an amazing Valentine's Day everyone! Hugs and kisses!

New Interior Paint Refresh

By 11:37 AM , , , ,
Today I am excited to share with you all that we have completed a full interior repaint of our home with SW Seasalt paint color. So long boring beige and hello new home! I love the color of this paint. It is one of those colors that looks different depending on the lighting. In some lights is looks blue, some lights more of a gray blue, and other lights it looks slightly green.

I first discovered this color while watching an episode of Fixer Upper on HGTV. After seeing again in a nearby home during a Christmas home tour (which by the way you should follow her instagram because her home is GORGEOUS, her instagram is FarmHouseForFour) I made up my mind. We were going to re-paint on our home Seasalt. I actually prefer Lowe's paint to Sherwin Williams paint (and it is less expensive) so we took a paint swatch to Lowe's and they matched perfect.

We ended up painting all our "common areas": i.e. living room, kitchen, dining, hallways, guest bath, entry, etc. The paint job is complete and I could not be more happy!  It's amazing what a huge difference a new paint color can have on a home.

Stories of "E" Round 2

By 4:12 PM ,
It's time for round 2 of "Stories of E." For those of you who may not have seen my prior "Stories of E" post (you can check it out here) it is a place where I document the adorable, crazy, sweet, silly stories of our now 19 month old. He is so sweet yet so funny. It continues to blow my mind how quickly time passes and memories fade way far more quickly than they ever should. O.k. I'm done being sentimental. Here goes the craziness:

  • He has just learned how to say his name. Today he found my mirror I use to see the back of my hair and comes up to me, "Mommy, dat E***." Cracking me up.
  • Right now his favorite person in the whole wide world is my Dad, his grandfather. Although my dad had a different name he is hoping to be called, E, has labeled him "dawh." To say he is obsessed with dawh is an understatement. He wants to call dawh all the time. If dawh is busy or I am busy and can't call he calls dawh on a pretend phone. The other day I hear him in his room with a thermometer up to his ear, "hey dawh, what cha doin dawh. ooohh, dogs."  The dogs are his second favorite thing the whole wide world.  Here is a picture of him with my dad from Sunday. He wouldn't lay still in my arms like that for a second.
  • Day before yesterday we had our first we got bite incident at school. Poor guy got it bad. Full out bite marks through his skin were still showing up 24 hours later. When I picked him up he wanted to tell me all about it and kept kissing his own arm. When I asked what he told his friend when his friend bite him he said, "Go way." Seriously.
  • Chasity is his new teacher at school. On the way home yesterday he keeps saying to me "asity." I took me a while to put it together. Ohh, are you talking about Ms. Chasity I finally asked? He responds with an enthusiastic "yes." What do you like about Ms. Chasity I asked? He responds, "row, row, row boat." She sings this song to him often.
  • E is not great about eating his vegetables. The other night we were trying to get him to eat his green beans. He loves his Daddy and wants to be just like him so we told him he needed to eat his green beans so he could be strong like daddy. Out of no where he goes "stronnnggg" in a deep voice and flexes his muscles. Cracked us up. We had no idea where he learned that as it certainly wasn't from us. I told his teacher and sure enough a they had been doing it a couple weeks ago when they were talking about Goliath. This kid amazes me.
Thank you, God, for the wonderful gift of allowing me to be this boy's mommy. He continues to wow me everyday.

Summer Time Wedding Trends

By 3:53 PM , ,
Today I am excited to share with you all a guest post on summer weddings. :)

Summer weddings this year will have much to offer in terms of trends. From color

palettes to different types of music and even a change in demand for certain types of

wedding venues, you can expect that the 2016 wedding season will be a bit different

than 2015’s.

2016 Summer Wedding Trends

Here are some of the more prominent trends to watch out for during 2016’s summer

wedding season.

1. Vibrant colors – Sophisticated brights are all the rave. Not too flashy though,

definitely not anywhere near carnival-like bright. The trend is more about

selecting one bright color and using it throughout as a sort of statement. Think

bold oranges and such.

2. Natural accents – The use of fruits and veggies in centerpieces will make a big

statement this summer wedding season. Expect them alongside bright colors (as

noted above) and less popular floral selections such as succulents.

3. Relaxing music – Expect to hear more ukuleles and steel drums this summer, as

opposed to cheesy 80’s cover bands. The trend is creating a relaxing and laid-

back atmosphere for guests. An environment to sit back and enjoy the weather,

nature and good tunes.

4. Themes – Think cabin in the woods, beach, mountain and farm themes. Anything

that takes the bride and groom back to their roots will be popular this summer.

You can expect the scene to be accessorized with well thought-out additions that

specifically tie the wedding back to the bride or groom’s (or both) younger years.

5.  Cake flavors – Traditionally, one might almost always expect to see a white

wedding cake and chocolate groom’s cake. This season though, with bakers

these days thinking outside the box in their offerings, you can expect that there

will be the addition of seasonal ingredients in the cakes. Fresh berries, even

herbs might find their way onto your plate. You never know.

There you have it. Most certainly not ALL of the fads trending this summer 2016

wedding season, but the top 5 that you can for sure expect to see.
