Announcing the Arrival of Our Daughter + Giveaway Winner

By 9:41 PM , , ,

Well it has been a BIG week in our household. We are THRILLED to announce that our daughter, Brighton Abigail, surprised us by making a week and a few days early arrival last Tuesday, 2/20 (which is even more surprising considering we were planning on a planned c-section this upcoming Thursday, 3/1). She was born 6 lbs. 9 oz. at 19.5" inches long and is perfect in every way!  We are so incredibly thankful to God for this sweet, precious miracle baby!

She is the sweetest baby and it's already hard to imagine life without her in it. Don't worry I plan to write her birth story with all the details around her birth and her early arrival later this week. In the meantime I am laying a little low and soaking up every minute of cuddles with our sweet girl (while recovering from a c-section myself and boy is it a recovery). Big brother could not be more thrilled about her arrival! More to come on that later as well...

However, I had to jump on and announce the winner to the 3 months of date nights...

Congrats Maggie! So excited for you! Hope you enjoy your 3 months of dates.

Stay tuned later this week for our birth story for Baby Brighton.

"I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I've ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, every day we are together is the greatest day of my life."
-The Notebook

Valentine's Day. The day people either hate or love. While I understand why some people are against the holiday I have always loved Valentine's Day. Any day to celebrate love I am all about...yes I completely agree with those of you who say you should celebrate those you love everyday of the year and not just on this one holiday but I also know sometimes you have to be really intentional or good intentions don't happen so I am all about a day dedicated to celebrating love. Whether that love be for your spouse, kids, or friends I hope you get a chance to tell/show someone how much you love them today.

This year I am so thrilled to celebrate my 13th Valentine's Day with my man and my 4th Valentine's Day with my little Valentine. We try to make the day really special for the little guy complete with lots of sweet treats, cuddles and kisses, and fun. For us that means a day that starts with heart shaped donuts from Dunkin Donuts, followed by lots of sugar and fun, and complete with pizza and Charlie Brown Valentine's Day movie.

As far as my sweet hubby and I each year gets a little harder to make sure we celebrate us. But truth is he is my first true love and should always remain my #1. That's why this year (especially being 38 weeks pregnant and swollen) I am SO thrilled for our date night-in thanks to #NightInBoxes

Tonight we are so excited for our fun plans for our Date Night In Box after we put our little guy to bed. This is our first month receiving this date night box and this month's box is all about "Our Story." The night starts out with a delicious suggested menu complete with appetizers, main course, dessert, drinks, and even a mocktail recipe (which this pregnant Momma really appreciates). After that we get to turn on the suggested playlist of music, and follow the instructions in the box for our date night. Since this box is all about our story it has us start with a photo scavenger hunt with an included disposable camera (should be interesting I honestly had no idea they still made these), next we make Oreo pops together, and lastly (the part I am most excited for) we get to create the story of us using the notebook guide we were provided. We are so excited to spend this special evening together!

GIVEAWAY:

Great news! In honor of Valentine's Day I am giving away a 3 month subscription for your own set of date night in boxes so you too can have the perfect at home date night. All you have to do is click on the link below to enter to win!

10 Ways to Have a Happy Marriage

By 3:17 PM , ,
In honor of Valentine's day just around the corner I thought I would share with you all 10 pieces of advice we have learned in our seven years of marriage (12 years together exclusively) that help us ensure a happy marriage. I can promise you we do not have it all figured out or the perfect marriage but we do have a very healthy and happy marriage and I am truly blessed to bits by my sweet husband. I have never regretted my decision to marry him and I don't ever plan to.  But before I share my thoughts on ways to help ensure a healthy and happy marriage I first have to brag on this man right here for a moment...

This man is a true rock star you guys. Through my entire 37 so far weeks of pregnancy (not to mention year and a half of infertility appointments) this man has not missed ONE SINGLE doctor's appointment. He has been by my side to hold my hand every step of the way. Not only that but he has rocked single dad duty as my new job as put my on road and thus taken me away from home many nights. I am so super duper grateful for him. He is truly my rock.

Ok, enough mushy...on to the 10 ways to ensure a happy marriage:

1. Never, ever criticize your spouse in front of others.

Even if they deserve it try your very hardest not to ever criticize your spouse in front of your friends, family, etc. It is true what they say about words...they are your most powerful weapon and can't be taken back once spoken aloud.

2. Praise your spouse in front of others.

No one ever tires of hearing how great they are - especially in front of others.

3. Do special acts of kindness for your spouse with no expectations.

Wash their laundry. Make them dinner. Wash their truck. Leave them a small gift. Surprise them with lunch at the office. The possibilities are endless.

4. Leave each other love notes for no reason.

We have an ' I love you because' board in our kitchen we we frequently leave other notes. However, any note anywhere works. Post it notes are your best friend.

5. Keep the romance alive.

Whether it is simply getting dolled up and going on a date when you least feel like it, bringing home some flowers, or reminiscing back to the good ole days when you first started dating and reminding each other why you fell in love to begin with keeping the romance alive is super important.

6. Take at least one trip a year alone together.

This one gets harder as you have more kids but we think it is super important. We take at least 3 days a year to go somewhere together alone on a little mini honeymoon. It is so important to have adventures together and continue to make new memories as a couple that don't all revolve around your kids. Whether or not we want to think about it at the moment one day our kids will be grown and it will just be the two of us again.

7. Find something you enjoy doing together.

It can be as simple as watching a show together or maybe it is taking an evening stroll or working out in someway together.

8. Send each other surprise text messages throughout the day just to say "I love you."

Bitmoji's are your best friend. I'm just saying.

9. It's ok to talk about your kids.

I know people say when you go out on a date night not to talk about your kids. I'm going to be honest I have never truly understood this...they are your kids together and that is something very special. Enjoy them together. Talk about what is going well and cute things they did/said. It truly bonds us closer together.

10. Alone time is important.

You might be thinking "what? I thought this was about your marriage?" Trust me when I say sometimes we all need a few moments/activities for ourselves in order to be a better spouse. We have found we need things to talk to each other about outside of work and kids and having alone time and our own friends helps us be better for each other.

MOST IMPORTANT: Keep God in the center of your marriage.

You will have good and bad days in marriage just like anything else in life but at the end of the day keep God in the center and allow him be the one you go to with the complaints or praises. Nothing draws a couple closer than to pray together. There is something just so intimate about it.

Top 10 Baby #2 Must Haves

By 1:32 PM ,
You guys...I have been so impressed with the latest and greatest baby products that have come out in the last 4 years since I had my son. It sort of makes you want it all doesn't it?

If you are like me and expecting your second but unsure of what you truly still need hopefully this list will help you.

1. A Second Baby Monitor

If you are like me you are still using your first monitor for your first child so a second is a must. I did a lot of research and ultimately decided on this one.

2. A Second Sound Machine

Because again, you are in the same boat as us your first still uses theirs so a second is a must.

3. Diaper Pail Refills

Because you can NEVER have too many of these.

4. Diapers

I am a huge fan of Luvs - they are priced right and leak the least amount if you ask me.

5. Second Car Seat Protector

Because we all want to save our leather.

6. New Diaper Bag

If you are like me mine just got nasty from using it with our first. This time I decided on a diaper backpack and of course went with hot pink.

7. Stroller Buggy Board

Ok I honestly think this is the neatest thing if you have an older child like I do. It attaches to the back of your single stroller so your older child can be contained yet you don't have to push a double stroller.

8. Breastfeeding Moms: Lanolin Tube

This will absolutely save you. Trust me.

9. Honest Body Wash and Lotion

Smells great and is has all the yucky stuff removed.

10. Wipes

Again you can NEVER have too many.

Moms with multiples...anything I am missing you would add?
